One of the first Optimistic Outlooks I ever wrote had one of my favorite quotes in it. Then, like most things you write, it got filed away and forgotten.

A year later, a stay with a friend and his wife changed that. Meeting her for the first time, she said, "I'd love for you to come into my art studio. I want to show you something."

Walking in, there was the quote from Chris Williamson that I so fondly remembered on the wall: "The magic you're looking for is in the work you're avoiding."

She said. "What made me put that above my artwork is that I don't always feel like painting. But the magic I'm looking for is in the work I'm avoiding."

That story has never faded, because a message can hit you at exactly the wrong time to matter, and then find you again exactly when you need it.

Today is the day to hit play. Stop circling the goal you keep putting off. Don't worry about how well you do it or how it turns out. Attack it with one intentional action.

A better marriage is on the other side of a hard conversation. A finished book is on the other side of writing it, one page at a time. Your best health is on the other side of the workout you keep talking yourself out of.

The magic isn't hiding. It's just sitting behind the thing you keep avoiding.
