Beliefs Shape Your Behavior

Don't let old beliefs hold you back

Beliefs shape behaviors.

Recently, I launched a new 1-on-1 coaching program with a phenomenal company that is investing in a small group of high-performing leaders. The goal? To prepare them for future executive roles as part of a thoughtful succession plan.

It’s humbling, challenging, and a powerful opportunity to help create meaningful, lasting growth. But here’s what I’ve learned: if you want to change a behavior, you have to look underneath it.

Because behavior doesn’t change on its own, because belief drives behavior.

Your mind interprets past experiences and forms beliefs to help you succeed in the future. Those beliefs become the foundation for your actions.

So if you want to lead differently, grow faster, or reach a new level, you don’t just need new actions. You need new beliefs.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “What got you here won’t get you there.” It’s true. But here’s a more specific way to say it: “Don’t let your old beliefs prevent new progress.”

Today, I want to challenge you with the same questions I asked the leaders I’m coaching:

  • How do you see yourself as a leader?

  • What events or experiences shaped that view?

  • How might those beliefs be shaping the way you lead others today?

Take five minutes. Reflect. Because the next level of leadership you’re chasing won’t come from doing more. It will come from better beliefs.

Don’t let old beliefs prevent new progress.
