Choosing Leadership Without a Title
Opportunities to lead are everywhere
I’m impressed by anyone who chooses leadership. Someone who takes the initiative to elevate others and improve future performance, not because they have to but because they want to.
Many people have natural opportunities to lead due to their title, talent, or role. But there’s another type of leader, the kind who puts on the leadership lens when they don’t have the built-in authority. They lack the title, direct reports, or official influence. But that doesn’t stop them.
They find small opportunities to lead. Sometimes it’s ignored, other times it’s celebrated. Either way, it deserves to be recognized.
Here’s the truth: leadership isn’t about your title, it’s about your intentional actions to elevate others.
Where might your opportunities show up today? It could be as simple as:
Encouraging a teammate who is struggling.
Sharing an idea that could make a process better.
Listening deeply to someone who needs an ear.
Taking ownership of a mistake before anyone asks you to.
Setting the tone with positivity when the energy is low.
The key is that you choose to lead. You choose to inspire, empower, or serve someone else, expecting nothing in return.
Leadership isn’t about your title, it’s about your intentional actions to elevate others.
