Discipline Equals Freedom

Summer blazed, a grasshopper lounged in the sun, and an ant inched by, shoving a breadcrumb toward his nest.

“Quit working and enjoy the day,” the grasshopper joked.
“Winter’s coming,” the ant said, “I’m stocking up.”

The grasshopper kept singing; the ant kept working. When snow covered the ground, the grasshopper found nothing to eat and grew weaker daily, while the ant dined on his summer stores. Eventually, the grasshopper died, yet the ant thrived.

The ant wasn’t lucky; he was disciplined. Your job is to do at least one thing today that your future self will thank you for. Discipline is trading a moment’s comfort for tomorrow’s gain. It’s the willingness and ability to sacrifice what you want now for what you want later on.

Jocko Willink has this unbelievable line: “Discipline equals freedom.”

The freedom you desire must be unwrapped by your self-discipline.

Discipline equals freedom
