Embrace What You Don’t Understand

Courage counts.

While it might not show up immediately on the scoreboard or a successful outcome, it counts because it compounds. It proves to yourself that you are the kind of person who does courageous things.

True courage is the ability to embrace what you don’t understand.

Anyone can embrace what they understand or when they know what the outcome will be. It’s much more difficult when you find yourself in the midst of an opposition or the unknown.

Think about it. It’s not risky to go in for a kiss when it’s your spouse or significant other. But going in for a kiss with someone you have butterflies about is as scary as it gets.

It’s not nearly as courageous to start a business when you have already started one before, and you know you can do it.

This isn’t to minimize the courage, because courage always counts. However, when you embrace what you don’t understand and go for it anyway. That’s impressive.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s being scared and deciding to do it anyway.

Here is what I want you to remember. You don’t need to feel courageous to be courageous. Being courageous is a hard but essential decision because everything you want is on the other side of courage. It’s not guaranteed, but it’s guaranteed not to happen without courage.

If you are struggling with courage, find someone to encourage you.

You don’t need to feel courageous to be courageous.
