Paul was a talented young salesperson. Great with people. Eager to learn. Brave enough to approach anyone.
But the results didn’t match the effort. He was so discouraged that he started to wonder if he was in the right line of work.
One afternoon he hit his limit. He shut it down early and headed to the park for a run.
After a few miles, he sat down on a bench. A couple of minutes later, an older gentleman finished his walk and sat down next to him. They started talking, and Paul told a total stranger everything.
The stranger’s name was Dave. He had been the top producer at his company before he started his own firm.
Dave listened for a while, then said:
“You have activity, but you aren’t persistent with it. You’re willing to pick up the phone, but you lack consistency. And you’re so focused on what’s missing that you aren’t grateful for what’s in front of you.”
Then he said, “Take your phone out and write this down.”
“If you are persistent, you will get it. If you are consistent, you will keep it. If you are grateful, you will get more of it.”
Dave stood up. “I need to run. But read that every morning for the next couple of weeks. You’ll be shocked at how things start to change.”
So let this be your reminder that persistence gets it. Consistency keeps it. Gratitude multiplies it.
Which one should you focus on today?
If you are persistent, you will get it. If you are consistent, you will keep it. If you are grateful, you will get more of it.
