Go Before You're Ready
Never a better time than the present
The biggest battle to achieve or do something that you haven’t yet done is in your mind more than with your skills.
However, most people get it backwards. They assume that to reach the next level, their skill set must be perfect and fully developed. Years ago, this was my mindset as well. I was invited to keynote my first big event, and my first thought was, “I’m not ready.” I wanted more time, more preparation, and more smaller stages.
But then a mentor of mine said something to me that I will never forget: “You’re never going to feel ready because ready isn’t a feeling, it’s a decision.”
He was right. I wasn’t a perfect speaker that day, but it changed everything. I grew more in that hour than I ever would have by waiting another year. Because “ready” didn’t come before. It happened after.
Being ready isn’t a feeling; it’s a mental decision you and I have to make.
Accepting a new position requires a mental decision
Winning a tournament requires a mental decision
Securing a big deal requires a mental decision
You’re job is to make the mental decision to go before you’re ready. If you wait until you are 100% ready for something, you have waited too long. The reason is that you’ll learn, develop, and adjust once you are there anyway.
Today is your day to allow yourself to be scared and decide to do it regardless.
Ready isn’t a feeling. It’s a decision.
