How You Do It Matters
It’s a sure sign that you’re going to end up in a favorable position when you give great detail to the little things. Because, how you do anything is how you do everything.
That phrase has been attributed to many people over the years, but the truth behind it doesn't change. Your habits in small things always show up in the big things. The way you show up in the unseen moments is a preview of what you’ll do when it really counts.
There’s a leader in Charlotte who embodies this truth: Eddie Hull.
He’s the athletic director at Holy Trinity Middle School, the head baseball coach at Charlotte Catholic High School, and founder of the Corndogs, a travel baseball program. Under his leadership, all three programs have been transformed. Not just in terms of wins, but in how the players carry themselves, how they practice, and how they develop as young men.
If you watch one of his practices or just observe how his athletes walk through the hallway, one thing is clear: excellence isn’t an event. It’s a standard. It shows up in how they warm up, how they speak to one another, and how they show up to compete.
Eddie doesn't just coach baseball. He teaches mindset, responsibility, and character, and he does it with consistency. That consistency has created culture, and that culture is driving results.
So what about you? If someone watched how you show up in the small things, what would they learn about how you approach the big ones?
Here is what I want you to remember today: Consistency builds identity, and identity shapes destiny.
How you do anything really is how you do everything.
And hats off to my friend Eddie Hull for his leadership, and congratulations to him and his wife on welcoming their first child this week. Now, he gets to instill those same values as a father.
How you do anything is how you do everything.
