You are carrying around way too much. Maybe it’s weight, stress, or resentment, but I’m willing to bet it’s something.
Most people keep carrying the extra weight because they refuse to spend the time, energy, or effort required to remove it. I know this because I do it too. I’ve looked at a number on the scale I don’t love, kept shirts in my closet that I will never wear again, and carried unresolved resentment from conversations I haven’t had.
During an episode of My First Million, guest Jesse Itzler spoke passionately about what most people get wrong at the beginning of the year. He said, “It’s hard to go far or fast if you’re too heavy.”
He went on to say, “It’s time to get light. To cancel the things you don’t need, to clean out your closet, to take your inbox to zero.”
Those words stopped me in my tracks. They stuck with me enough that the moment I got home, I did a closet purge and sent clothes I no longer wear to Goodwill.
The truth is, though, there isn’t only one time a year when you should get light. It’s taxing to go far or fast if you’re too heavy, regardless of the time of year.
So let this be your reminder. What do you need to remove or change to get lighter so you can move further or faster?
It’s taxing to go far or fast if you’re too heavy.
