Keep Hope Alive

Just about the bravest thing you can do in life is to keep hoping.

Because there are many reasons not to be hopeful:

  • The bad things that happen to good people

  • The hard work that doesn’t get rewarded

  • The endless struggles

  • The multiple failures

Anne Frank wrote, “Work, love, courage, and hope. Make me good and help me cope.” In the darkest of situations, Frank realized that without hope, what you're going through isn’t worth it.

Not being hopeful is cheap. It’s resigning yourself to a dull life, which is insanely sad because you only get one of them.

Hope and being positive should be the one thing no one can rip away from you.

Yesterday, after dinner, I sat playing a game of gin (a card game) with my wife. After each hand, the winner shuffles the cards and deals ten cards to each player. While dealing, I had this visual that I wasn’t dealing her cards, I was dealing her hope. In this case, it was the hope that she would have a great starting hand, but in life, leaders must be dealers of hope.

Remember, one of the bravest things you can do is be hopeful, and the most important thing you can do is provide hope to others.

Leaders must be dealers of hope.
