Life Responds to Your Discipline

Life responds to discipline.

However, most people want life to respond to their God-given talent. The truth is talent is important, but it is also common. There are many talented people, whether in physical or mental talent.

But not every talented person is disciplined. Nick Saban said, “Talent is common, discipline is not. Talent separates average from good. Discipline divides good from great.”

He is right, but discipline goes beyond performance. A daughter looked up to her dad and one day asked him, “Dad, what should I look for in my future husband?” After thinking for a few minutes, the dad responded, “Honey, look for a man who is willing to fast.”

He continued, “If a man is willing to fast by refraining from food, he has discipline. He is willing and able to sacrifice what he wants now for what he wants later on.”

The dad’s advice is undoubtedly unique, but his wisdom permeates.

You won’t meet your God-given talent’s potential without discipline. Today is your day to sacrifice what you want now for what you want later. Remember, life responds to discipline.

Talent is common, discipline is not.
