Massive Imperfect Action
There’s nothing wrong with planning. But planning without action is just procrastination.
James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, said, “Whenever you are stuck searching for the optimal plan, remember: getting started changes everything.”
He’s right. Most breakthroughs don’t come from perfect plans. They come from imperfect action.
But one of my favorite authors and speakers, Jim Rohn, took it a step further.
He said the best word to go with action is “massive.”
Massive action is the cure-all. Not casual effort. Not convenient effort. Not hopeful effort. Massive and unrelenting action.
Most people say, “I’ll try it a time or two and see what happens.”
More likely, those few attempts will fail, along with their motivation.
But successful people speak a different language: “I’m not going to stop until something moves.”
Last week, my 13-year-old came running up to me asking for help to start a 3D e-commerce business. I loved the enthusiasm. But I knew if he wanted to be successful, he needed more than a plan and he needed massive action.
So he created a plan. And now, every day, he’s been taking massive action. I don’t know if it will be successful, but I know a plan and massive action is the only chance it does.
Now it’s your turn.
Take a hard look at your to-do list. If it’s full of low-stakes tasks that won’t move the needle, change it.
Because it’s not just about having a plan or getting started. It’s about starting with force and refusing to coast.
Start small. Move big. Your breakthrough will come from massive, imperfect action.
Most breakthroughs don’t come from perfect plans. They come from massive imperfect action.
