Motivation Comes from Deprivation
The day after Thanksgiving is one of the hardest days of the year to feel motivated.
There is a simple reason why.
When you are full, you are not deprived. And motivation comes from deprivation.
Think about every moment in your life when you were at your most driven. It was not when everything was comfortable. It was not when you were full. It was when something was missing. When you wanted more. When you felt a gap between where you were and where you could be.
It was there after a big loss.
It was there when you failed.
It was there when you had no money.
The goal is not to make yourself miserable or create artificial struggle. The goal is to reconnect with the part of you that is deprived. To identify what gives you maximum motivation and tap into it today.
Today is not a day to wait for motivation to show up. Today is a day to choose it.
Look at an area of your life where you feel too full, too comfortable, or too settled.
Give yourself just enough deprivation to create hunger again.
Because motivation does not come from being full, it comes from being hungry.
Motivation comes from deprivation.
