Stop Obsessing Over the Outcome
Geno Auriemma, the 12-time National Championship Women’s Basketball coach at UConn, gave his team and you some of the most valuable insight around mindset you might ever learn.
Before this year’s national championship game, he looked at his team in the eyes and said, “Nobody introduces me as the guy who lost 12 Final Fours.”
People rarely remember you for your failure. Yes, losing is less than desirable, and if you lose, it’s ok that it bothers you.
However, if you take risks and shoot your shot, people might just remember you for your successes. They might remember you for how you show up, how you compete, and the kind of teammate or leader you are to others.
Desiring a positive outcome is not the problem. The issue is obsessing over the outcome.
Show up, do the work, and play (or work) free. Trust your training and perform to the best of your abilities.
If it's good enough, the confetti will fall (or hit your bank account). If not, pick your chin up and show up again the next day.
