Stop Postponing It

You keep postponing it. I don’t know what “it” is, but I know it’s something important.

To postpone means to delay something. It’s not the same as canceling. When you cancel something, you’ve decided that it’s no longer going to happen. When you postpone something, you’ve just decided to push it back to another day, another time, a future version of you.

Sometimes that’s the right move. Like when there’s lightning in the area and the golf tournament has to be paused for safety. Or when the delay will actually make something better.

Seneca said, “While we are postponing, life speeds by.”

But let’s be honest. Most of the time, when you postpone something, it isn’t about the weather or making something better. It’s about fear, convenience, or comfort.

You tell yourselves you’ll get to it, just not right now. You’ll take the trip when things settle down. You’ll write the book when we have more time. You’ll make the calls when you’re more prepared. You’ll start working out when your schedule clears up.

And then what happens? Days turn into weeks. Weeks turn into years. And life speeds by.

Here is the question I want you to ask yourself today, “What are you waiting for?”

More than likely, your answer isn’t a good one.

So here is your reminder: You’re not promised tomorrow. You don’t need permission. You don’t need perfect timing. You need to stop postponing it. Because if you do, you will miss the opportunity.

While we are postponing, life speeds by.
