If only you could go back in time. Now that you know what you know, you'd do a few things differently.

When I first test-drove a Tesla seven years ago, I called my financial advisor and said, "We have to buy Tesla. It's different." He looked at the financials and said, "It's not a good investment. We should pass."

We were wrong. But here's the thing. Most people live in the past. They regret or just reminisce. They replay what they should have done or wish they'd done. Living in the past doesn't move you forward.

There's a Chinese proverb that says, "The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second-best time is right now."

That's the mindset shift. Learn from the past, but don't live there. The truth is that you can’t change the past; you can only focus on the present in order to impact the future.

Today is your day to stop trying to go back and start focusing on what you can do right now. The present is where progress happens. And it's the only thing you can control.

The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second-best time is right now.
