Succeeding at Things That Matter
Today is my 42nd birthday. I am not a birthday guy, however, the day has me contemplating my relationship with fear and success.
In my teens, I feared failure and my dad. Success meant getting the girl or winning the game.
In my twenties, I feared not finding someone. Success meant finding what I was supposed to do.
In my thirties, I feared people’s judgment of my work. Success meant a book deal and making a buck.
Now in my forties, I still care about all those things but in different and smaller ways. Currently, I fear God and losing meaningful people. Success means making an impact in things that matter.
There is this powerful quote: “Don’t fear success. Fear succeeding at something that doesn’t matter.”
I want what I do, while I am here, to matter.
One of the reasons I write the Optimistic Outlook is because I believe you matter and are worth it. The people you lead, influence, and build community with matter.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share insights on your walk.
Don’t fear success. Fear succeeding at something that doesn’t matter.
