The Light Within You

Last week, I was at an event where parents and kids were raving about a high school student with a large social media following. While there is nothing wrong with big a following or external attention, every day the world celebrates external success.

However, it’s important to remember a wise quote, “If the spotlight on you is brighter than the light within you, it will kill you.”

That’s why your character matters. Character is when what you do, what you say, and how you live your life become one. It’s the foundation that allows you to stand tall when the spotlight shines the brightest.

We’ve all seen examples of what happens when character lags behind success:

• The social media star who gains influence but crumbles in private.

• The singer whose fame explodes as their life erodes.

• The entrepreneur who sells a business, their bank balance goes up, but their personal life goes down.

None of them failed because of talent or opportunity. They failed because their inner light wasn’t strong enough to handle the outer one.

You don’t have to make the same mistake. Every day, you get to choose to develop your character. Do the right thing even when no one is watching. Keep your word, even if it isn’t easy.

Today, focus less on chasing the spotlight and more on fueling the inner light.
