Tonight, my Holy Trinity middle school football team gets a second chance. Not a luxury you always get in football or in life.
Earlier this season, we lost to Charlotte Christian, a program led by NFL legends Luke Kuechly, Jonathan Stewart, and Greg Olsen. It was heated and competitive. A well-coached, talented team beat us.
Tonight is the rematch, at our home field. Here's what I told our team.
I asked, "Who here believes in God?" Every hand went up.
Then I asked, "Have you ever seen God?" The answer came back fast. "No."
"But you believe?"
You could see it land.
So I gave them a definition. Belief is a conviction that something is true or possible before you have proof. Every success, whether it be team or individual success, starts with belief.
Then I continued, “We don't need to believe we're better than them. We need to believe we can beat them this week.”
I don’t know what you need to believe in right now. But I do know whether it’s a football team or a team at work, belief is essential. So take your football coach pep talk and do me a favor.
Dream like you believe.
Practice like you believe.
Play like you believe.
Said differently, see it, prepare for it, then go take it.
All success starts with belief
