What Does Your Life Say You Value?

If someone followed you around for a week, what would they say you value?

Where we spend our time, energy, and attention reveals what matters most to us. You can’t hide it.

There are seasons where certain things need more focus — work, family, health. That’s natural. But here’s the truth: you never know when a season might end.

Recently, a fit and healthy 43-year-old man named TJ Costello passed away here in Charlotte on a run. He was a Navy graduate, a football player, a husband, and a father of three. I didn’t know him well, but we coached football in the same program.

A few days after his passing, I was stopped at a red light reading his obituary. Without thinking, I started to cry. Not because of his job title or accomplishments, but because almost nothing in that obituary was about his career. It was about how he served others.

Do you value your work? Your marriage? Your relationships? Your health? Your wealth? Your hobbies?

All of them are important. But today, you have one job: answer that question for yourself.

And if the answer isn’t what you want it to be, you still have the opportunity to change it.

Where you spend your time and energy reveals what you value most.
