Kirby Smart has built one of the best programs in college football. Entering the 2026 season, he owned a 117-21 record at Georgia, two national championships, and four SEC titles.

So after a massive win over rival Alabama, reporters expected the usual victory talk. They got something else.

Smart told them, “It's never just about the wins and losses. It’s about the young men that you’re affecting, growing, and raising. Do I want to win championships? Hell yeah, but I have the perspective now to know that there are a lot more important things than just winning.”

Maybe you like football, or maybe you don’t. Either way, his words matter, because his lesson fits in five words you can carry anywhere:

When in doubt, zoom out.

Smart figured out what pressure hides from you. Zoom in too far and every result feels like the whole story. Zoom out, and you can see the people, the purpose, and the long game. It’s like being in an airplane and looking down from thousands of feet. Zooming out provides perspective that’s hard to see when you're in the middle of it.

This doesn’t mean the goals in front of you don’t matter. They do. Chase them hard. But when the pressure never lets up, the bigger picture gives you the perspective you need.

What would you see if you zoomed out on today’s problem?

When in doubt, zoom out.
