You Are Ready

Have you ever had the internal thought that you're not as good or capable as others think you are?

If so, you're not alone. That's what researchers call imposter syndrome. And if you haven’t felt it yourself, you definitely know someone who has.

Early in my executive coaching practice, one of the highest performers I’d ever worked with opened up about his struggle with imposter syndrome. Honestly, I didn’t know how to coach him through it, until a mentor gave me a powerful line.

He said,"If you weren’t ready, you wouldn’t have the opportunity. And if you weren’t capable, you wouldn’t have the desire."

That line became our anchor. Anytime the doubt crept in, we repeated it.

The truth is, you and I struggle to believe we’re good or worthy enough.
So to brace for failure, we start preparing for it.

But here’s the shift, the words you say to yourself are the most important words you say. You have to talk to yourself more than you listen to yourself.

Find a line. Make it yours. Say it often.

Imposter syndrome may not disappear overnight, but with practice, you’ll replace it with belief.

If you weren’t ready, you wouldn’t have the opportunity. If you weren’t capable, you wouldn’t have the desire.
