Achievement carries a rush that is hard to describe unless you have felt it.

Winning something meaningful does something to you. It affirms the work you put in and validates the sacrifice. Without even realizing it, the feeling can become addictive because once you taste it, you want more.

I have had seasons where I let a result speak louder than the truth. Where I wanted the outcome so badly that it clouded my judgment about what mattered most. After a particularly challenging loss in a golf tournament, a coach said something I needed to hear: “You are worth more than the outcome of your performance.”

That wisdom did not take away the disappointment in the moment, but it was a critical reminder not to let the outcome become my master. To make sure the game did not become my idol.

What I have come to understand is that this insight does not diminish how you perform or what you accomplish. Those things matter, and working toward them is what high performers do.

What becomes dangerous is when your identity slowly attaches itself to the result. When you win, you feel like you matter more. When you lose, you feel like you matter less.

That is a heavy and dangerous way to live, especially over long periods of time.

The truth is, you are worth more than the trophy, the promotion, the signed contract, or even a Super Bowl parade. You can value the outcome, just refuse to let it define you.

Keep pursuing your dreams. Make meaningful contributions with the gifts God has given you. A competitive spirit will help you win whatever game you are playing. Just do not lose sight of this:

Your worth is much greater than the outcome.

You are worth more than the outcome of your performance.
