Today I’m keynoting a session for a group of 150 of the highest-performing reps at a real estate agency.

If I’m honest, I’m a little nervous and excited at the same time. Because when you’re in a room like that, you’re not talking to beginners. You’re talking to people who are already producing and doing things most people won’t. And the principle I keep coming back to is simple.

Your current level of performance is impressive, but it is not your ceiling.

But getting there requires growth. Sahil Bloom shared something I haven’t been able to shake. He calls it the growth paradox.

But here’s where it gets tricky. Growth is a game. And there are two types of people playing it.

Maintainers and creators.

Maintainers are busy. They are productive. They are often successful by most standards. But they are maintaining what they have already built.

Creators are different. They are intentionally designing the next version of themselves or their business. They are building leverage. They are multiplying their success instead of just managing it.

Now it’s tempting to believe these are the same thing, but they’re not. Because staying busy can look a lot like growing.Repeating what works can create the illusion that you’re moving forward.

But at some point, maintaining stops being growth and starts becoming a ceiling. And the people who break through to another level are the ones who decide to create again. Not because they have to. Because they choose to.

So which one are you going to be today: A maintainer or a creator?
