You Want The View
It's the Climb That Counts
You are made for progress, not for arrival.
However, dreaming about the outcome is more fun and mentally stimulating. Everyone wants the view but they don’t like the climb. Austin Kleon backed this by saying, “Most people want the noun without doing the verb.”
You want an A in the class, but the work required to get an A isn’t nearly as appealing. You want to hit your sales quota, but the number of calls and emails with rejection is stifling. You want the title at work, but leading the people to get there is challenging.
The answer is perseverance and commitment. Perseverance is the fuel you need to get where you’re going. You have the ability to apply steadfast effort to achieve your goal despite difficulties, failures, or opposition. Commitment is the removal of options.
Create a mental space where you’re interested in what the view will look like but are committed to the work to get there.
Today is your day to think about the outcome but focus on the journey.
Everyone wants the view, but they don’t like the climb.
P.S. I am excited to announce the Optimistic Outlook is now a podcast! If it has added any value to your journey, it would mean a lot if you left a rating and review wherever you listen to podcasts.
