Your Energy is Currency

Use the Energy Smile

People feel your energy before they hear your words.

Yet most people never stop to consider the energy they bring into a room. And when you aren’t intentional about your energy, it’s rarely neutral, it’s usually negative.

Take Pat McAfee, the podcast and TV broadcaster, as an example. The moment he walks into a room or steps on a set, you know what’s coming: energy. He fills the space with life, enthusiasm, and motion.

Mel Robbins put it best: “Your energy is currency. Spend it where it matters, and bring the weather wherever you go.”

She’s right. It’s your responsibility and mine to bring positive energy into every environment we’re in. Because when you show up with negative energy, the people around you won’t want you there for long. Energy is contagious. It can lift people up or pull them down.

Think of yourself like a lamp. You decide whether to brighten the room or dim it. You decide whether to talk about what’s right or what’s wrong, what’s possible or what’s broken.

Here’s one simple way to bring positive energy before you even speak: use the Energy Smile. The Energy Smile is when you walk into a room with a genuine smile that says, “I’m glad to be here.” It raises the temperature, opens others up, and signals that no matter where you are, you’re glad to be there. It doesn’t matter if it’s the church, the DMV, or a work meeting. They all require positive energy.

So today, channel your inner Pat McAfee. Choose to radiate optimism, curiosity, and gratitude. Because the way you show up changes the weather for everyone around you.

Daily Reflection:
What kind of energy will you bring today?

Be the reason the room feels brighter when you walk in.
